Dr. Shane Barton is a physician scientist, orthopaedic surgeon, and leader in medical education. As the 'Thomas Noris, MD, Endowed Professor and Chair of Orthopsedic Surgery at the University, he is deeply committed to residert, fellow, and student education. As the inaugural Assistant Dean of Faculty Development for LSU Health Shreveport, he oversees all promotion and tenure activities, showensing his commitment to shaping the future of medical professionals. His influence extends beyond the local sphere, as he actively participates in national and international organization such as AAOS, AOA, ABOS, LOA, and USOC. Notably, he contabutes as an exam question writer for Part I of the ABOS Certication and serves as an oral examiner for Part II, actively contrbuting to the advancement of the field of orthopaedic surgery and sport medicine. Dr. Barton now serves as a member of the AAOS International Committee, representing the organization globally with respect to medical education, professional development, and innovation.

Dr Barton's clinical expertise ranges front non-operative sport medicine to complex operative reconstruction of the shoulder, elbow, and knee. His particular interest in managing conditions involving revision and extensive bone loss procedures in the shoulder and elbow and addressing medical issues facing athletes. Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Barton is deeply invested in medical education, medical system and device innovation, faculty development, and the feild of public health and health system policy. His passion for these areas of interest is evident through numerous national and international invited presentations. Dr. Barton's commitment to advancing his knowledge and expertise is demonstrated by his completion of a Master in Public Health (MPH) from LSU in 2021, and his ongoing pursuit of an Executive MBA and MS in healthcare management and leadership

Dr. Barton has a wide range of research interests spanning clinical public health and basic science. He currently serves as the Principle Investigator on the NIH RO1 grant focused on studying stem cells. He holds three granted medical device patents and has multiple ohters pending. His contributions to the field can be found in numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, a co-authoured book, book chapters, and presentations delivered on a national and international scale, covening various aspects of orthopaedic surgery, medical education, and leadership. Dr. barton, previously an EMT-B, now acts as an advisor to multiple law enforcement agencies on tactical medicine and emergency care.

Dr. Barton finds great joy in his personal life, married to Tammy and a father to his two children, Ethan (wife Olivia) and Ella Grace.
